6 March 2000

We've been teaching a certain family for a while now: Vicente Sabongan, his wife, two step daughters (Sally and Roella Daiz), and his three children.  Vicente's a dong (disrespectful word for "boy"; it does NOT mean penis in the Philippines!), and his wife isn't interested, so they'e worked their way out of the teaching pool.  We've had high hopes for the daragas (young single women), Roella and Sally.  We went by tonight and Sally started talking, seemingly embarrassed, about Roella.  Finally, she spit out, "Roella went to the convent."  She's becoming a nun!  Crap!  What's up with that?  We can't even do anything about it, because we can't exactly waltz onto the convent and visit a prospective nun about our church.  At least we've still got Sally.  We taught her the fourth discussion.  It went pretty well.  She's not sure about baptism.

There was a cockroach in my mosquito net last night.  I killed it this morning.  I hate cockroaches.
