13 November 1999

Another interesting day.  It started off in Tolosa doing baptismal interviews.  They went quite well.  After comp study and lunch, we did some major, inspired planning.  At zone conference, President Dela Vega presented a new change in the way work will be done in the mission.  He brought up how we need to got house-to-house and contact everyone.  That's hard to do when we have an entire town to cover.  So he came up with an interesting idea.  He told us to choose a section of 200 houses in or near the town proper.  We are to focus all of our time and energy working in that area, loving the people, knowing the people, and sharing the Gospel with everyone.  Not everyone will accept, of course, but it won't be for lack of trying.  We need to accept rejection as part of our work.  So, earlier today, Elder Millington and I got all of the maps in the area book and prayerfully chose our 200 house section that we will concentrate on for the next four months.  Then we walked around the area we had chosen.  While we did, the Spirit bore witness to us that we had made the right choice.  I'm excited for the work now.

We went out to San Rafael around 5:00 to visit Hazel and Susan.  I gave them a Bible that I had purchased for them.  Then we hung out with Susan while Hazel got ready for a birthday party for her cousin.  We had a nice chat with her.  She's been feeling kind of sick lately.  I hope she's feeling better soon.  Once Hazel was ready, she came and hung out with us.  My jaw almost hit the floor when I saw her.  That's the second time she's done that to me!

At 7:00, the birthday party started.  Hazel wanted us to come, but I was a little reluctant at first.  Then I thought, Oh, what the heck.  We'll sing happy birthday, eat some cake, do a little small talk, then be on our way.  Nope.  It was her cousin's 18th birthday.  They make a huge deal of it here.  We were there for two hours.  It was a nice party, though.

I have to be careful.  I need to keep my mind off Hazel.
