12 October 1999

What an odd day yesterday turned out to be.  After all the regular P-Day stuff, we went to a branch home evening/farewell Elder Werner party at the meeting house at 5:30.  Two of the first people to arrive were Mary Chille Cobacha and Ritchel Anlio.  When I went up to Mary Chille and shook her hand, she said, "Elder, I have to apologize for what I did last night."

"What?" I replied, surprised.  "What did you do?"  One way that I joke around with people is to take something tiny and insignificant, and pretend that it bothers me a lot, and I give my friends a hard time about it.  I've never had problems with it before, because I always have a smile on my face when I do it.  I guess it was too dark on Sunday night for them to see my smile, because they thought I was serious.  Mary Chille and Ritchel thought that they had offended me, or hurt my feelings.  I felt like a big pile of worm-infested feces, especially when Mary Chille started crying as she apologized to me.  "No, no, no.  I was just joking.  I'm sorry.  You don't need to be sorry, I wasn't hurt, I was just joking. I'm so sorry," is pretty much what I said.

After everything was straightened out, Elder Werner and I went to San Rafael to tell Hazel and Susan about the activity.  They, of course, wanted to get changed first, so we waited for them.  When I saw them after they changed, my jaw just about dropped.  I've always found these two very attractive, but last night they were drop-dead gorgeous.  I felt awkward accompanying them to the church.  Two missionaries travelling with two beautiful, dressed to kill, young women doesn't exactly look good.  Then we had to walk them home at 9:30 to make sure they got back safely.

It was a very emotional night for Elder Werner.  It's his first transfer.

My ingrown toenail is back.

It's evening now.  Elder Werner packed this morning while I wrote in my journal.  After lunch, we went out to Barbo and taught the second discussion to Rody Fredericko and his daughter, Maria Rosa.  We committed them to baptism on October 30.  Very nice.  After that, we went out to Calubian and visited the Gualbertos.  we had a nice visit with them.  They fed us, too.  Then we came back to Dulag and visited with the Yepez family.  Richard Cipra showed up, and we talked with him as well.  He leaves on his mission on the 18th.  At 6:00, we went to San Rafael to visit Hazel and Susan.  It was fun as always.  Afterwards, we walked in the pouring rain to San Miguel to visit the Aucila bunch.  Ritchel was also there.  We had a fun visit with them as well.  My greenie's (missionary slang for new missionary) gonna love all my daraga (young single woman) friends!
