1 November 1999

The weekend took an unexpected twist.  I woke up Saturday morning at 4:00 with diarrhea.  From that time until around 12 noon, I had a loose bowel movement every ten minutes.  I even vomited violently once.  I called Elder McIver at the mission office and told him what was going on.  At around 2:30, he and Elder Roberts showed up here and took Elder Millington and I to Tacloban.  I was admitted to the Divine Word Hospital at around 3:00 Saturday afternoon.  They hooked me up to an IV and took blood, urine, and stool samples.  Then they put me in an air conditioned room with cable TV and a full functioning toilet.  The only problem was the uncomfortable bed, and the even less comfortable pillow.  I never really found out what's wrong with me.  The only thing the doctor told me was that it's not an amoeba.  I was discharged from the hospital today at 2:00 pm.  It's Monday, by the way.

It's All Saints' Day.  Everyone went out to the grave yard and cleaned their dead relatives' gravesites.  Now they're all getting drunk.
This picture was actually taken a few minutes before I was discharged.  I told Millington to take a picture of me in the bed and then feigned unconsciousness so I could send it home to freak out my mother
