16 March 2000

I'm in Borongan now.  I arrived this morning.

Yesterday was interesting.  I packed in the morning.  After lunch, we visited the Jamolin family.  At first, it was just Yolanda, Mary Joy, and Roella Daiz.  We had a very open discussion with her.  She had a lot of questions for us.  We answered very honestly, and followed the Spirit.  The Spirit wasn't building on common beliefs, that's for sure.  Roella says she wants to be a nun and "spread the Word," but she has doubts about Catholicism.  She says she's in the dark.  I shared D&C 11:21, the scripture about "seek first to obtain my word," and told her to ask in prayer.  I hope she makes the right decision.  Ryan and Sally showed up, so we did a review of the discussions.

Elder Welsh and Elder Fawns arrived in Guiuan around 5:00.  I took Elder Fawns out to visit the Cabus family to tell them I was transferred, while Welsh and Culbertson called the APs, and went to do interviews for the baptism on Saturday.  Grace and Joy weren't there, so I didn't get to say good-bye to them, but I had a nice visit with President, Sister, and Marissa.

Fawns and I went to Mabuhay around 6:30 and met up with the others.  We hung out with everybody while Welsh interviewed.  It was fun.  At one point, I took Ryan aside and talked to him about the importance of gaining knowledge and going to school.  Yolanda had expressed to me concerns because he had been skipping a lot of school lately, and she asked me to talk to him.  It was a very good discussion.  I felt like a father.  I think he'll listen, too.  He's a very smart kid.  And a good kid.  He'll be a good leader in about ten years.  After all the interviews, Yolanda and Sally called me into the house.  They had made bico (chocolate rice) and stuck candles in it.  Everyone sang happy birthday and we all ate.  It was awesome.  I'm gonna miss them so much.
