10 March 2000

Well, we went out to Iberan with Monica and Roguel this morning.  Nothing exciting happened.  We rode in a jeepney for 20 minutes, then walked into the bukid (wilderness) on a harsh trail for 30 minutes.  When we got to the bario, Monica introduced us to all of her relatives.  They loved us: young, guwapo (handsome), white, and we knew their dialect.  They tried to persuade us to go to their barangay (closest English word would be subdivision) dance this evening, but we politely declined.  We walked another 15 minutes to Monica's land.  It was very peaceful out there.  Beautiful, too.  It would've been nicer if Monica would've stopped talking.  The lady never shuts up!  And she, for some reason, kept saying "bull shit," a little phrase she picked up from her dead Swedish husband.  We got her house started, then had to leave.  She's still out there.

We visited the Arellano family this evening.  They're fine.  A little upset, of course, but this isn't souring their feelings towards the Church, or other members, or anything.  They're so awesome.
