24 November 1999

We went to Franks last night to grab a bite to eat.  Guess who showed up: the Rugby boys!  (The glue sniffers from 2 October.)  They weren't high this time, though.  They were very talkative.  The Franks girl and I were joking around with them.  We were subtly making fun of them, but I don't think they caught on.  They were kind of weird.  Just as they were leaving, the town nutcase stopped to chat with us.  They guy's crazy, and he loves to talk to us.  The problem is, he speaks in a strange mixture of Waray-Waray and English, and I can't understand anything he says.  I understand individual words, but his sentences make absolutely no sense.  It must be funny, though, because he laughs a lot.  He's a sharp dresser, too.  Yesterday, he was wearing blue jeans, no shirt, and his hard hat that he always wears.

We went tracting (door-to-door contacting) all morning.  We didn't have much luck.  We met a few cool people, though.  We'll go back another day and contact them.

Tomorrow is American Thanksgiving Day.  Elder Millington and I bought some prime rib steaks, and we're going to have Sister Buco cook them for lunch tomorrow.  We'll have ice cream and Oreos for dessert.  In the evening, we're going to Abuyog.  They're having a party there with their district missionaries.  We'll be eating spaghetti and five gallons of ice cream.  We'll spend the night there, have CSP (Community Service Project) in the morning, and then Elder Palma and I will come back to Dulag for baptismal interviews.

One month until Christmas Eve.  I wonder where I'll be for Christmas.  I better have easy access to a telephone.

LATER

We went tracting pretty much all day.  We didn't teach any discussions, but we met an interesting guy.  He was a Jehovah's Witness, but we didn't talk about the Gospel.  We talked about reflexology and acupressure.  Interesting fellow.  Very nice guy.

We did reviews this afternoon with Maria Rosa and Leo.  Maria Rosa prayed!  Leo didn't.  I think he knows how.  He's just too shy.

It was a clear night this evening, so we went to the beach.  The scene there was beautiful.  There was a full moon, and it was still pretty low in the sky, so it had an amazing reflection on the ocean.  It was a very bright moon.  We gazed at the stars, too.  We spotted Orion, and some constellations that can't be seen at our latitude back home.  We even saw a shooting star.  It was a very lovely evening, one I'd like to experience with a beautiful woman after my mission.  Instead, I spent it with Elder Millington talking about the three Nephites, John the Beloved, and Cain.  We were getting pretty deep and contemplative.
