20 September 2000

I've reached an interesting emotional state.  I'm excited to go home.  I keep saying to myself: "I'll be with my family soon!  I'll be in a first world country soon!  The Catholic church won't be shoved down my throat!  Nobody will call me Joe!"  Then I'll be visiting the Amistoso family, and I'll think to myself: "I'll never see these people again.  I won't see any of the many people here that I love.  I'll miss my mission buddies.  I'll never ride on the outside of a jeepney again.  I'll miss the work."  It's very interesting.  I can't wait to go home, but I don't want to leave any of my friends here.

Elder Jones is an interesting character.  Sister Layante and Sister Espinas call him "bunso," which is Tagalog for "youngest child in the family."  It suits him well, because he doesn't have the highest maturity level.  He's the sixth child of eight, 19 years old, class of '99.  And he's very loud and talkative.  He's a nice guy, he just needs to grow up.  Hopefully, his mission will help him with that.
Elder Casey Jones
