15 December 1999

All right, lets start on Sunday the 12th.  Church started at 9:00.  It was cool for three reasons: I didn't have to do anything, the members are cool, and Mary Grace Cabus (the branch president's five-year-old daughter).  She's so cute.  She sat with me for the entire sacrament meeting.  And this was only the second time she had ever seen me.

After church, we caught the 12:30 ride from Guiuan to Borongan.  I sat in a position that caused my ingrown toenail to return.  More about that later.  The jeepney was slow, so we missed the 3:00 ride from Borongan to Tacloban, which also happened to be the last ride.  We missed the Sunday evening portion of Christmas Conference.  We went to the zone leaders' (Elder Bassi and Elder Jones) apartment to spend the night.  No one else was there, of course.  We ate their food, drank their Kool-aid, and slept in their beds.  The first ride for Tacloban left at 1:00 am, so we woke up at midnight and rode it.  We were on time for breakfast at Fatima chapel at 6:30.  After we all ate, President and Sister Dela Vega spoke to us.

Next was a basketball tournament.  Elder Wetenkamp and I skipped out with Elders Clark and Miller to go downtown and look around.  After that, we met everyone else at MacArthur Park for lunch and "organized games."  Lunch was good.  The office brought us all Shakey's.  I didn't participate in any sports because of my toe.  I just hung out with whoever wasn't playing.  I watched the arm wrestling tournament.  Elder Atkinson won.  Elder Pousson tore some ligaments in Elder Sutton's arm.  I was quite disappointed with the Monday afternoon portion of the conference.

6:00 brought us back to Fatima chapel for the best part of the conference.  Some Filipino sisters did some native dances, Catarman zone showed a hilarious video they had made, and all of the Polynesian elders did some Samoan dances.  It was awesome.  Sister Unga joined them and did a fire dance.  I hope the pictures turn out.

I'm too tired right now.  I'll finish this later.
