6 October 2000

I woke up sick yesterday morning, and it just got worse as the day went on.  We only worked for three hours in the afternoon.

I only got three hours of sleep last night.  It was a combination of my sickness and irrational fear about evil spirits.  Elder Parejas said there was a ghost in our room on Wednesday night while I was in Jaro.  I woke up coughing at 1:00, and couldn't get back to sleep because I was afraid.  Finally, at 2:00, I went downstairs and hung out with the lights on.  At 6:00, when I usually wake up, I went to sleep until 8:30.

Elder Parejas on Wednesday evening called Alma (our daraga friend at Big Mak) "tipid," Tagalog for "thrifty."  She got really pissed off at him, and nobody could figure out why.  So this morning, while Parejas was bad-mouthing her for getting angry at a customer, I took Elder Harline and we talked to Alma.  She thought he said "pipi."  The equivalent to that in English would be (excuse my language) "cunt."  We cleared everything up.

I weighed myself on Monday for the last time on my mission.  I came into the field 230 pounds, and I'm leaving 190.  My all-time low was 180.
