17 August 2000

We had a little surprise today.  After lunch, we were walking out to San Mateo for an appointment and the mission truck pulled up beside us.  Elder Greenwood, the driver, said he had companions for us.  They split our very large area.  Elder Hubbard and Elder Parejas now work in Barugo and part of Carigara.  It was an emergency transfer, that's why we hadn't been forewarned.  All four elders in Catarman were pulled out.  A man came to their door asking for money.  When they wouldn't give him any, he threatened to inflict severe physical pain and burn down their house.  So now I have to teach three people how to speak normal Waray.  They've only ever spoken Northern Samar Waray.  Parejas is new, and Hubbard was Cebuano before Catarman.
